Overview
It's the first thing a visitor sees and the surface the family car sits on every night. A home driveway does two jobs at once — look like it belongs to the house, and take the daily wear without rutting or going green.
This is our driveway paving done specifically for homes, and homes are different. You're living there while we work, with garden beds, a wall and a gate to move around. We plan the job so your day carries on, protect what's planted, and match the paver to your house instead of a standard pallet.
It's one part of the wider residential paving we do around the home, but the driveway is where most owners start — it's the surface that works the hardest and shows the most.
In detail
The look sells it. The base and the edges are what keep it looking that way.
Kerb appeal comes from a paver that agrees with the house, not one that shouts over it. A face-brick home suits charcoal or silver cobble; a plastered home suits terracotta or autumn-gold clay brick. We bring interlocking paver samples to lay against your wall before you commit.
A home driveway carries the family car, the visitors and the odd delivery bakkie, in the same wheel tracks night after night. We excavate the soft topsoil, compact a crushed-stone sub-base in layers, and lay a 60mm block on top so the wheel lines don't sink.
Nothing makes a home driveway look sharper than a clean border, and nothing keeps it tighter. We restrain every edge with a concrete haunch so the pavers can't creep and gap, then finish with a contrasting charcoal border that keeps the lawn out of the joints.
Rain has to go somewhere, and on a home it must never be your garage door or front step. We lay the drive to a fall that carries water to the street or a garden channel, and design in a channel drain on a steep or enclosed site.
You don't move out while your driveway is done. We protect the beds and walls, keep the spoil in one place, and leave you a way in and out. We hand back with the garden intact and the site swept.
| Home style | Paver we'd suggest | Colour palette | Thickness |
|---|---|---|---|
| Modern / face-brick | Interlocking cobble | Charcoal, silver | 60 mm |
| Classic / plastered | Clay brick | Terracotta, autumn gold | 60 mm |
| Cluster / townhouse | Bevel-edge interlock | Tan, buff | 60 mm |
| Steep or double drive | Interlocking block | Charcoal, red | 60–80 mm |
Guidance only. We confirm the right paver and spec on site, against your house and your traffic.
Benefits
Most of the value is in the base and the borders — which is exactly why cheaper jobs skip them.
01
A crisp, matched driveway is the best-value upgrade at the front of a home. People read it before they reach the door.
02
Charcoal cobble, terracotta clay or autumn gold, in the pattern that suits the house — not a colour off a catalogue.
03
A layered, compacted base spreads the load so the wheel tracks stay level for years, not months.
04
Laid to a fall with drainage designed in, so nothing sheets toward the garage or pools where you park.
05
Restrained edges and correctly filled joints keep the lawn out of the paving and the weeds down.
06
Oil stain or a chipped block? We lift it and replace the one — try that with tar or concrete.

Why us for this
On handover day every driveway looks good. What you can't see is whether the sub-base was compacted in layers, the edges restrained, and the falls set to send water away from the house.
Those are the things that decide whether you're phoning someone in two summers, and what a cheap quote leaves out. Our own teams — not subcontractors — quote and build your home, and we back the work in writing across the areas we serve.

Restrained edgesSo the field can't spread and gap

Our process
Usually three to five working days, weather permitting.
01
We measure, check the ground and slope, and lay samples against your house before you choose.
02
We sheet up the garden and walls, then dig out the soft ground and cart away the spoil.
03
Crushed stone compacted in layers, falls set for drainage, edge restraints and the border fitted.
04
Pavers laid to pattern, cut in, vibrated down, jointing sand swept in and the site left tidy.
We had three quotes and Rapid Paving were the only ones who brought samples and matched the paver to our face-brick. The team worked around the garden without wrecking it, and the driveway looks like it has always belonged to the house. Two summers on, still dead level.

Send a photo of your driveway on WhatsApp and we'll often give you a ballpark before we even visit.
WhatsApp a photoMost home driveways come in between R220 and R500 per m² supplied and laid. A flat, standard drive in a plain paver sits at the lower end; a sloped site or a decorative paver pushes it up. You get a firm, itemised price at the free site visit.
A 60mm interlocking or cobble paver in a herringbone pattern. It's thick enough for the family car, and the herringbone locks the blocks against the twisting of turning wheels. We match the colour to your house — charcoal for face-brick, terracotta or autumn gold for a plastered home.
Three to five working days for a standard home driveway, from excavation to the final sweep, depending on size, access and weather. We keep you a way in and out, and flag upfront if a larger or sloped drive will run longer.
Usually not, and we'll be straight with you. Laying new pavers over a cracked or sunken surface just carries those faults upward. If the old base is genuinely sound we can build on it, but more often the honest job is to lift it and build a proper base.
We work clean. Garden beds, walls and lawn get sheeted or protected, spoil is kept in one spot and carted away, and we sweep down at day's end. You're living there while we work, and we plan the job around that.
Yes — a written workmanship guarantee on our base preparation and installation, on top of the manufacturer's guarantee on the pavers. If our work settles or fails, we come back and put it right. Small issues later fall under our paving repairs service.
