Overview
A factory yard, loading bay or depot apron carries punishment nothing else on the property comes close to: loaded trucks swinging wide under weight, forklifts running the same line hour after hour, containers dropped and dragged, trailer jack legs forcing a whole load through a few centimetres of steel. Get the surface wrong here and you're chasing potholes and cracked slabs inside a season.
We build for how a working site actually gets used, not how it looks on handover day: base and drainage first, sized to the heaviest vehicle and the worst point load, edges detailed to stay put under constant turning traffic. In detail
The strength of an industrial yard is almost all in the part you never see once the last block goes down.
Industrial paving is groundwork first and pavers a distant second. We excavate to firm ground, then build a compacted crushed-stone sub-base in layers, each one vibrated tight before the next goes on. Where the soil is soft or the loads severe, we stabilise those layers so the base carries concentrated weight without settling. The blocks are only the wearing course; this hidden build is what carries the trucks.
A home driveway runs happily on a 60mm paver; an industrial yard does not. For truck aprons, forklift routes and container areas we specify 80mm heavy-duty pavers, because the extra depth resists the tipping and point-load cracking that concentrated wheel and jack loads cause. Laid in herringbone, the blocks lock together so braking and turning traffic can't walk them out of line.
Standing water wrecks a working yard and makes it dangerous underfoot. We build in a camber and set proper falls so rain runs off to channel drains or the stormwater point, never pooling where forklifts operate or trucks stand and load. It matters on the Highveld, where a summer storm can dump more rain in twenty minutes than a flat yard can shed.
Services get dug up, heavy loads do damage, ground shifts. With block paving a repair stays local: we lift the affected pavers, fix what's wrong underneath and relay the same blocks the same day — no saw-cutting a slab, no re-casting, no waiting for concrete to cure. Our old concrete apron cracked every winter where the trucks turned in. Rapid Paving dug it out, built a proper base and laid 80mm blocks. Two years of loaded traffic later it's still dead flat, and when a services trench had to go in, it just meant lifting a few blocks and dropping them back.

A truck apron or container yard needs a deep, engineered sub-base — crushed stone built up and compacted in layers, stabilised where the soil is soft. That base does the real work; the pavers are the wearing surface.
Yes. Interlocking block paving on a properly engineered base is used at depots, ports and container terminals because it handles heavy, repeated and concentrated loads better than a rigid slab. The blocks flex and share the load between them; a slab concentrates it until it cracks. We build the base to suit the heaviest thing that crosses it.
We plan the work around your operation. On bigger yards we phase it so part of the site keeps running while we build another section, and we can work after hours or over weekends where access allows. The sequence is agreed with you before we start.
Yes — a written workmanship guarantee on our base preparation and installation, alongside the manufacturer's guarantee on the pavers. Because the surface is modular, if anything does move we lift that section, correct the base and relay it, rather than you living with a crack across the yard.
A concrete slab cracks at its joints and under point loads and is a major job to repair. Tar softens in Highveld heat and ruts under standing loads. Block paving spreads the load, copes with movement and — the big one on a working site — repairs in a day with no curing time.
