Industrial parking & yard paving

Factories, warehouses and depots need somewhere for the fleet to stand and the staff to park — and that's a heavier job than a shopping centre car park. We build truck and staff parking on a deep engineered base with 80mm pavers rated for point loads, laid to falls that clear a Highveld storm fast, and phased so your operation keeps running while we work.

Overview

Where the fleet stands and the staff park, all day, every day

A retail car park fills and empties between opening and closing. A factory or depot yard carries trucks and trailers manoeuvring in and out on a schedule, staff cars parked bumper to bumper for a full shift, and often a forklift or two crossing between the gate and the yard. That's sustained, heavy, repetitive traffic on top of the point loads a laden trailer or a container corner puts through a small footprint — a different loading case to a shopping centre or an office park, and one plenty of surfaces simply aren't built for.

This page covers the parking and yard areas specifically — truck and trailer bays, staff parking, and the hardstand between them. If it's the loading bay apron or the container area itself giving you grief, our industrial paving page covers that heavier build; if trucks are chewing up the road bringing them onto site, see industrial driveways. And where a site also has customer-facing parking out front, we'll often spec that separately to commercial parking lot standards, so the public side looks the part while the working side is built to last.

We build these yards for factories, warehouses and depots across Germiston, Isando, Boksburg and Kempton Park, and the wider industrial belt across Gauteng.

In detail

How we build parking that copes with trucks, trailers and daily traffic

Point loads and hours of standing traffic ask more of a base than any driveway or customer car park.

An engineered base, sized to the worst load on site

We excavate to firm ground and build a compacted crushed-stone sub-base in layers, vibrating each one tight before the next goes down. Where the ground is soft, or the site carries laden trailers, container corners and jack legs concentrating weight onto a small footprint, we stabilise those layers so the base doesn't settle under a point load a normal driveway base was never designed for. This is the part nobody sees on handover day and the part that decides whether the yard is still flat in ten years.

80mm where the trucks run, 60mm where they don't

Truck and trailer parking, turning circles and manoeuvring aprons get an 80mm heavy-duty interlocking paver laid in herringbone — thick enough, and locked together tightly enough, to resist tipping and cracking under a wheel or a trailer leg. Staff and light-vehicle bays can run on a 60mm interlocking paver instead, which keeps the job affordable without under-building the areas that actually take the punishment. Every paver we lay is SABS-approved.

Falls, camber and drainage that actually clear a storm

A flat yard is a flooded yard, and standing water under a loaded trailer or across a staff walkway is a hazard as much as a nuisance. We build in a camber and set proper falls toward channel drains and catchpits tied into your stormwater system, so bays and hardstand clear fast after the kind of downpour the Highveld throws at us most summer afternoons.

Phased around your shifts, not shut down for weeks

Very few operations can afford to lose all their parking at once. We map the yard into sections, agree a sequence with you upfront, and can run after-hours or weekend shifts where security allows — so trucks and staff always have somewhere to park while we rebuild the rest.

Spot repairs instead of a full re-lay

A trailer leg cracks a block, a service trench gets dug through a bay, ground settles under a heavily used corner — with block paving that stays a local fix. We lift the affected pavers, sort out what's wrong underneath, and relay the same blocks, usually the same day. It's the same principle behind our wider paving repairs service.

Benefits

What properly built truck and staff parking gives you

Most of the value sits in the base and the falls — exactly what a cut-price resurface leaves out.

01

Carries fleet weight without cracking

An 80mm paver on an engineered base spreads point loads from trailers and containers instead of failing at one crack line the way a slab does.

02

Staff bays that hold their line

Cars parked all day, every day, on a properly compacted base means bays and kerb lines stay put instead of rutting where the wheels sit.

03

Clears a Highveld storm fast

Camber and falls move water off the yard instead of leaving trucks standing in puddles or staff wading to their cars.

04

Repaired without a shutdown

A cracked or oil-stained block lifts out and gets replaced on its own — no jackhammer, no curing time, no bay closed for weeks.

05

Built around your operating hours

Phased sections and after-hours shifts mean trucks and staff always have somewhere to park while the work runs.

06

Looks like a well-run site

Clean bays and tidy edges tell drivers, suppliers and auditors the operation is managed properly, from the gate in.

Why us for this

One contractor for the base, the bays and the phasing

A finished yard looks the same on handover day whether the base underneath was built properly or dropped straight onto compacted soil with no layering at all. The difference shows up months later, in the corner where the trucks always turn or the bay where a trailer stands loaded overnight.

Whether the sub-base was engineered for the actual point loads on your site. Whether the phasing plan was realistic, or just a promise. Whether one contractor owned the base, the paving and the sequencing, instead of three crews who never spoke to each other. That's what decides whether your parking is still flat and your operation never missed a shift.

Our process

From site walk to a yard back in full use

Planned around your shifts, with a sequence you sign off before we start.

01

Site visit & fixed quote

We walk the yard, ask about your fleet, trailers and staff numbers, check the ground and hand you a fixed written price.

02

Phasing plan agreed

We map the yard into sections and schedule after-hours or weekend shifts where they keep parking available.

03

Excavate, base & drainage

Dig to design depth, build and compact the engineered sub-base in layers, set falls and fit edge restraints and catchpits.

04

Lay, compact & reopen

Pavers laid to herringbone and compacted, jointing sand swept in, and each finished section handed straight back to you.

Our delivery trucks stand loaded overnight most weeks and the old surface was rutting badly under them. Rapid Paving rebuilt the yard in three sections so despatch never stopped, and when a trailer leg cracked a block a month later, it was lifted and replaced the same afternoon.

Can the parking area handle daily truck and trailer traffic?

Yes, provided it's built for it. Interlocking pavers on an engineered base spread the point loads a laden trailer, a container corner or a jack leg puts through a small footprint, which is exactly the loading a standard driveway or car park base isn't designed to take. We size the base and the paver to your actual fleet, not a generic spec.

How deep does the base need to be?

It depends on your traffic and your ground, so we assess on site rather than quote blind. Staff parking on firm ground needs less than a bay where laden trailers stand for hours at a time. Where the soil is soft, or the point loads are severe, we stabilise the sub-base layers so it carries that weight without settling.

What paver thickness do you use for truck parking versus staff bays?

Truck and trailer parking, turning circles and manoeuvring areas get an 80mm heavy-duty interlocking paver in herringbone. Staff and light-vehicle bays can run on a 60mm interlocking paver, which keeps cost down without under-building the areas that take the real punishment. We mark the split clearly on the quote.

Can you pave our yard while the factory or depot keeps operating?

Yes, this is how we run almost every industrial parking job. We section the yard so part of it stays available to trucks and staff while we rebuild the rest, cordon the live works properly, and can work after hours or over weekends where security allows. You agree the sequence with us before we start, so there are no surprises on a Monday morning.

How do we maintain industrial parking paving?

Very little upkeep, and none of it needs a contractor on standby. Sweep loose grit off occasionally, top up jointing sand every year or two where it's washed out, and deal with an oil stain or a cracked block by lifting and replacing that section rather than leaving it. We offer this as an ongoing paving repairs service if you'd rather not manage it in-house.

What does industrial parking & yard paving cost?

As a guide, supplied and laid industrial parking runs from about R220 per m², rising with paver grade, base depth, drainage and any phased or after-hours work. Every yard differs in ground conditions and fleet, so the accurate number is the fixed written quote we give after a free site visit.
