Industrial paving projects

Factory yards, loading bays, truck aprons and internal access roads laid across Gauteng — on a deep engineered base, with 80mm pavers built to take forklifts, loaded trucks and standing point loads. Here's a sample of the heavy-duty work we've put down for warehouses, depots and plants around the East Rand and beyond.

Industrial paving built to carry the working day

A yard that takes loaded trucks and forklifts every shift has a far harder life than any driveway. The jobs below were laid for the traffic they actually carry — and the base is doing the real work under every one.

Interlock, reach-stackers, delivery rigs reversing onto the dock, containers dropped and dragged, diesel and hydraulic oil, and a Highveld thunderstorm on top of all of it. That is the week an industrial surface has to survive, over and over. The projects on this page were put down for warehouses, distribution centres, factories and depots around Johannesburg, Germiston, Boksburg, Kempton Park and the wider East Rand.

What the photos can't show is the part that decides whether a yard lasts. We excavate down to firm ground, stabilise the subgrade where the soil is soft, then build and compact a deep crushed-stone base in layers before a single paver goes down. Edge restraints lock the field, and the falls are set so stormwater and washdown run to the channels instead of ponding at the loading dock. If you're weighing up a project, our industrial paving service page walks through exactly how we spec and build it.

What we pave

The industrial paving we take on

From a compact loading dock to a full container hardstand — every surface specced for the heaviest thing that runs across it.

Factory and warehouse yards

The working heart of the site takes constant turning, braking and standing loads all day. We lay 80mm interlocking pavers in herringbone on a deep, compacted sub-base so the surface shares the weight instead of failing at a single point. Block paving also shrugs off the oil, diesel and hydraulic spills that eat away at tar, and a stained or damaged block lifts out and swaps in without touching the rest of the yard. It's all covered under our industrial paving service.

Loading bays and truck aprons

The apron at the dock takes the heaviest, most concentrated loads on the property — a fully laden rig reversing in, then sitting still under load while it's worked. We build these on the deepest base and set the falls so washdown and rain run away from the dock, not under it. Marked bays, aisles and turning circles are set out to suit your rig sizes and traffic flow, the same way we lay out an industrial parking lot.

Access roads and internal routes

Gates, weighbridges and the roads between buildings carry slow, heavy, turning traffic all shift. We pave them on the same engineered base as the yard, with a camber for drainage and kerbs where they're needed to guide and protect the edges. Because the surface is modular, a service crew can trench across it and relay the blocks the same day — no saw-cut, no curing. See our industrial driveways and access roads.

Container and hardstand areas

Stacked containers and reach-stackers put tonnes onto the tiny footprint of a corner casting or a single wheel. A rigid slab cracks at exactly those points; interlocking block paving spreads the load down into the base and copes with the movement. We build the hardstand to carry the loads you actually handle, and quote the base honestly rather than guessing a thickness to hit a cheaper number.

Why it holds up

What our industrial clients get for their money

The value is under the surface — the base, the drainage and the fact that you can repair a patch without closing the yard for a week.

An engineered base under everythingExcavated to firm ground, subgrade stabilised where it's soft, crushed stone compacted in layers — the base carries the load, the pavers wear

80mm heavy-duty paversLaid in herringbone and locked at the edges, so braking, turning and standing loads spread across the base instead of tipping a single block

Point loads spread, not concentratedA container corner or a loaded forklift wheel puts tonnes on a small footprint — interlock shares it into the base, where a rigid slab would crack

Spot-repairable in a dayAfter a service trench or a settled patch, we lift the blocks, sort the base and relay them — no curing time, no closing the yard while it sets

Drainage and washdown that copeFalls and channel drains set so a Highveld storm or a washbay runs to the outlets, not across the loading dock

Fixed quotes, phased deliveryAn itemised price against your order number and a VAT invoice on completion, with the work sequenced so part of the site keeps running

Our warehouse yard was rutting under the trucks and the concrete apron by the dock had cracked right through. Rapid Paving stripped it, rebuilt the base and laid 80mm pavers in phases so we never stopped dispatching. A year of loading later it hasn't budged, and when the plumbers trenched across it they lifted the blocks and dropped them straight back.
