Paving contractors in Bedfordview

Bedfordview sits up on a ridge between Johannesburg and OR Tambo, and the hill shows in almost every stand we quote — steep driveways, terraced gardens and gates set well above street level. We build the base to hold on a slope and finish it to the standard the suburb expects.

Local overview

A ridge-top suburb that doesn't forgive a shortcut base

Bedfordview earned its name honestly. The suburb sits on high ground between Johannesburg and OR Tambo International Airport, with the taller stands looking toward the city on one side and the eastern approaches on the other. That elevation is part of the appeal, but it also means more of our jobs here involve a genuine slope than in most suburbs we work — a driveway dropping half a metre from gate to garage, or a garden terraced down toward Bruma.

The suburb is a mix: older, established stands with mature gardens around Bedford Gardens and Morninghill; sharper, newer finishes near the golf estate; and tighter, older plots through Oriel and toward the Kensington border, where access for a crew needs planning before the first paver goes down. Underneath it all sits the same reddish Gauteng clay that troubles the wider Reef, and on a slope it causes more mischief, not less. We dig deeper on the steeper stands, compact the sub-base in proper layers, and lay every surface to a fall that sends water where it should go.

The local picture

What makes paving in Bedfordview its own job

Three things about this suburb change how we build a driveway here.

Steep stands and driveways with real fall

A flat driveway is the exception here, not the rule. Plenty of stands drop from street to garage, or step down toward a terraced garden. On a slope like that, pattern matters as much as paver — we favour a tighter herringbone with a firm edge restraint, so it doesn't creep downhill under a car's braking weight.

Clay, a ridge, and water that wants to run

Bedfordview's clay behaves like clay anywhere on the Reef, swelling in the rains and shrinking back hard in a dry Highveld winter — but the slope adds a second problem: storm water runs rather than soaks in. We build a proper G5 sub-base, compact it in layers, and design falls that shed water into the stormwater system, not against a wall.

A finish that suits an upmarket address

Between the golf estate, the older money around Bedford Gardens and the offices along Georgian Crescent, Bedfordview doesn't do budget finishes. We cut pavers cleanly rather than filling gaps with off-cuts, keep joints tight and even, and match new work to existing paving when we're asked to extend or repair rather than replace.

Driveways, patios and pool decks up and down the hill

Residential work here runs from established stands around Bedford Gardens and Morninghill, often a tired driveway relaid or a patio extended around an old pool, through to newer townhouse clusters and golf estate homes built once, to a sharp standard. Oriel and the streets toward Bruma add smaller, older stands where every square metre of paving has to earn its place.

The approach doesn't change with the address. We protect gardens and retaining walls before digging out, build the base to suit the slope, and lay to a clean pattern with a firm edge restraint — loose material left out overnight is the first thing a hillside rain will move.

Business & industry

Georgian Crescent, Bedford Centre and the road to OR Tambo

Bedfordview carries more commercial work than its size suggests, mostly because of where it sits. The office parks along Georgian Crescent and the N3, the retail around Bedford Centre and Eastgate, and the steady business traffic toward OR Tambo mean forecourts and parking areas that have to look sharp and cope with daily use.

We lay parking areas, forecourts and walkways for offices and retail, and heavier industrial paving for logistics units toward Germiston and the airport, scheduling disruptive work after hours or over a weekend so a business doesn't lose a trading day.

Ask us a question
Do you cover my part of Bedfordview?

Yes. We work right across the suburb — Bedford Gardens, Morninghill, Oriel, Bruma and as far as the Kensington border, plus the golf estate and the offices along Georgian Crescent. Wherever your stand sits on the ridge, phone and ask.

My stand is on a slope — can you still pave it properly?

Yes, and it's most of what we do here. A steep driveway needs a firmer edge restraint, a tighter pattern and a fall designed to move water off the surface rather than down it. We assess the slope on site and build the base around it.

My driveway keeps cracking — why does this happen in Bedfordview?

Almost always it's Gauteng's clay moving under a base that wasn't dug deep enough or compacted properly, and on a slope a weak base fails faster still. New pavers on the same old base will crack again. We rebuild the sub-base to suit the ground and the fall, which is the only fix that lasts.

Can you match new paving to my existing driveway or the estate's standard?

Usually, yes. Most South African paver ranges are still available, and where an exact match isn't possible, we'll suggest the closest colour or a border that makes the join look deliberate rather than patched.

How soon can you start, and do you work near OR Tambo and the business nodes?

We book the free site visit within a few days, and most residential jobs start within one to two weeks of accepting the quote, sooner in winter. For commercial sites near Georgian Crescent or the airport, we're used to working after hours or over a weekend.
