Copes with constant turning
An 80mm heavy-duty paver on a compacted base resists the shove of reversing, turning and braking, bay after bay.

Home/Services/Commercial parking lot paving
Parking areas & car parks
Retail centres, office parks and residential complexes all need parking that copes with reversing, turning and braking all day, every trading day — a different job to a home driveway. We build car parks on a base rated for that traffic, laid to proper falls so bays don't flood, marked and lined to a clear layout, and phased so you keep trading while we work.

Overview
A driveway sees a handful of cars a day, mostly moving in a straight line. A commercial parking lot sees hundreds of turning, reversing, braking manoeuvres before lunchtime, in every bay, at every aisle. That's a different loading altogether, and it's why so many car parks we're called out to look fine on the surface but are breaking up underneath within a couple of years.
Parking lot paving is one of the biggest jobs under our wider commercial paving work in Gauteng, and it usually runs alongside the walkways that link your bays to reception, the mall entrance or the office lobby. We price the two together where they meet, so the finish and the falls match up across the whole site.
We've laid car parks for retail centres in Fourways and office and residential complexes right across the region. If your site runs constant heavy plant or truck traffic rather than customer and staff cars, have a look at our industrial parking lots page instead — the base spec is heavier again.
In detail
Cars turning and braking hundreds of times a day ask more of a base than any driveway ever will.
Reversing into a bay and swinging the wheel lock-to-lock shears at paving in a way straight-line driving never does. We excavate to solid ground and build a compacted G5 sub-base in layers, each one vibrated with a plate compactor before the next goes down. On bays, aisles and turning circles we specify an 80mm heavy-duty interlocking paver in herringbone — only SABS-approved pavers, laid on a base built to actually take the load, not just look right on handover day.
A flat car park is a flooded car park. We set out falls across the whole site toward channel drains and catchpits tied into your stormwater system, so bays clear after a Highveld downpour instead of turning into puddles cars have to dodge. Where run-off is already a problem, or your site has an attenuation requirement, we'll talk you through permeable pavers for some or all of the bays.
Marking is part of the same job, not an afterthought once the pavers are down. We set out bay widths, disabled bays, direction arrows and pedestrian crossings to a proper layout and paint them in durable road-marking paint once the surface is cured, with wheel stops and bollards fitted where they're needed.
Very few retail centres, offices or complexes can afford to close the car park for a month. We section large lots so part stays open for customers, staff and tenants while we rebuild the rest, cordon the live works properly, and run after-hours or weekend shifts where security allows. You lose bays in stages, never the whole lot at once.
| Area | Recommended paver | Typical thickness | Best pattern |
|---|---|---|---|
| Customer & staff bays | Heavy-duty interlocking | 80 mm | Herringbone |
| Drive aisles & turning circles | Heavy-duty interlocking | 80 mm | Herringbone |
| Pedestrian routes & bay edges | Large-format / clay brick | 50–60 mm | Stretcher / basketweave |
| Overflow & eco bays | Permeable interlocking | 80 mm | Open-jointed herringbone |
Guidance only. We confirm the right spec on site, based on your traffic, falls and soil.
Benefits
Most of the value sits in the base and the falls — exactly what a cut-price re-surface skips.
01
An 80mm heavy-duty paver on a compacted base resists the shove of reversing, turning and braking, bay after bay.
02
Correct falls and catchpits move water off the surface instead of leaving customers wading to their cars.
03
Bay markings, arrows and disabled bays painted to a proper layout, not repainted guesswork every year.
04
A cracked or oil-stained block lifts out and gets replaced on its own, instead of resurfacing the whole area.
05
Phased sections and after-hours shifts mean the car park stays usable while the work runs.
06
Manage stormwater at source and ease pressure on the site's drainage, without giving up parking.

Why us for this
A car park has more people relying on it than a driveway ever will — tenants, customers, security, a body corporate or a facilities manager who answers for every pothole. It needs one contractor who owns the whole job, not a base crew, a paving crew and a line-marking contractor who've never spoken to each other.
Our own teams handle the excavation, the base, the paving and the marking, across the areas we serve in Gauteng. One point of contact, one programme, and the base and installation guaranteed in writing.

Our process
Planned around your trading hours, with a programme you sign off before we start.
01
We measure the lot, check traffic, falls and access, agree what has to stay open, and hand you a written, itemised price.
02
We map the car park into sections and schedule after-hours or weekend shifts where they keep you trading.
03
Dig out, build and compact the G5 sub-base in layers, set falls and fit edge restraints and catchpits.
04
Pavers laid to pattern and compacted, bay lines and signage painted, and each finished section reopened.
We could never lose more than a third of our bays at once, and they planned the whole re-lay around that without us asking twice. A year of Highveld storms later, the bays drain properly and every line is still sharp.

Send a photo or a layout of your car park on WhatsApp and we'll often give you a ballpark before we visit.
WhatsApp a photoIt depends on the size and the traffic you need to keep running. As a guide, a few hundred square metres of parking runs to about a week from excavation to line marking, while a full retail or office car park paved in phases can take several weeks overall — though we reopen finished sections as we go, so you're never waiting for the whole project before you get bays back.
In almost every case, yes. We section the car park so part of it stays trafficable while we rebuild the rest, cordon the live works properly, and run after-hours or weekend shifts where security and access allow. Tenants, staff and customers keep parking while we keep moving through the phases.
Yes, it's part of the same job. Once the pavers are laid, compacted and cured we mark bays, direction arrows, disabled bays and pedestrian crossings in durable road-marking paint, positioned to a proper layout rather than guessed on the day.
Yes. Permeable pavers let rainwater soak through the joints into a stone bedding layer instead of running straight into the stormwater system, which helps on sites with attenuation requirements or a car park that's struggled with run-off in the past. We can specify permeable bays across the whole lot or just the areas that need it.
We lay every parking area to a deliberate fall toward channel drains and catchpits tied into your stormwater system, so a Highveld downpour clears instead of standing in the bays. On flatter sites, or where run-off is already a problem, we'll also look at permeable paving as part of the fix.
As a guide, supplied and laid parking lot paving runs from about R220 per m², rising with the paver grade, the sub-base needed, line marking and any phased or after-hours work. Every car park is different in size and access, so the only accurate figure is the fixed written quote we give you after a free site visit.
