A normal paved surface sheds water — which is fine until a Highveld storm sends it all somewhere at once. Permeable paving works differently: the pavers and their wider joints let rainwater pass straight through into a specially built, free-draining stone base, where it soaks away or is held and released slowly.
That eases the load on stormwater drains, reduces puddling and run-off across your property, and keeps more water on site — which is why permeable paving is increasingly specified on new commercial and residential developments as part of sustainable drainage (SUDS).
It's a specialist build — the base is different from standard paving — and it's one we do properly.

How permeable paving actually works
The magic is in the base and the joints, not just the paver.
Open joints, free-draining base
Permeable pavers are laid with slightly wider joints filled with clean stone chip, over layers of open-graded aggregate rather than fine compacted stone. Water passes through the joints and into the base instead of running off.
Where it's used
Driveways, overflow and staff parking areas, and any site where stormwater run-off has to be managed or where a development approval calls for permeable surfacing.
Keeping it working
The one rule with permeable paving is to keep the joints clear — a periodic clean stops silt clogging the surface. It's simple, and we'll show you how at handover.
