Commercial driveway & entrance paving

Your entrance is the first thing every client, tenant and delivery driver sees, and one of the hardest-working surfaces on the property. We pave business driveways and forecourts on a base built for daily traffic, laid to a fall so it drains properly, and scheduled around your trading hours so the doors never have to close.

Overview

Your entrance is the first impression, and the hardest-working surface

Clients and tenants judge a business before they reach reception, and the forecourt is doing the talking. A cracked, patched or puddling entrance says the place is barely holding together, however smart the office looks once you're through the door. A crisp, level driveway says the opposite before anyone gets that far.

Commercial driveway and entrance paving is part of the wider commercial paving we do across Gauteng, built on the same base principles as a home driveway and taken further. Your entrance carries a different mix of traffic — delivery trucks, forklifts, security booms, a steady stream of staff and visitor cars — all day, every trading day, not the odd family car in the evenings.

We price every entrance on its own traffic, layout and drainage, from a single office forecourt to the main approach into a shopping centre, and we work office parks and retail nodes right across the region, from Sandton to the industrial belts further out. If your site runs constant heavy plant rather than car and delivery traffic, we'll say so honestly and point you to our industrial driveway paving instead.

In detail

How we build an entrance that carries traffic and still looks the part

Two things separate an entrance that lasts from one that fails at the first rainy season: what's under it, and how the work is sequenced.

A base rated for what actually crosses it

A staff entrance and a loading approach are not the same job as a garden path, and we don't build them the same way. We excavate to solid ground and build a compacted G5 sub-base in layers, each one vibrated with a plate compactor before the next goes down. Where delivery trucks, forklifts or a boom gate turn and brake, we specify an 80mm interlocking block; where it's mostly cars and foot traffic, a 60mm block usually does the job. We confirm the split on site, not off a price list.

Herringbone at the turning points

Straight, stretcher-bond paving looks neat on handover day and shoves apart at exactly the spots where vehicles turn — your entrance, your boom gate, the mouth of a loading bay. A herringbone pattern locks the blocks against each other, so the twisting force of a turning wheel spreads sideways through the whole field instead of walking one row loose. It takes a little longer to lay and saves you a re-lay in three years.

Falls, channel drains and Highveld storms

Standing water at an entrance is a liability twice over — it undermines the base from below and puts staff, clients and delivery drivers on a slick patch right where they're watching the building, not their feet. We lay every entrance to a deliberate fall, and where a forecourt is enclosed or the approach is steep we design in channel drains and catchpits so a summer downpour clears instead of pooling at the door.

Phased and after-hours, so the entrance never fully shuts

Very few businesses can afford to block their own front door for a week. We section the work so part of the entrance stays trafficable while we build the rest, cordon the live side properly, and run after-hours or weekend shifts where security and access allow. You keep receiving deliveries and welcoming visitors; we keep moving toward handover.

Benefits

What a properly paved entrance gives you

Most of the value sits in the base and the falls — which is exactly why cut-price jobs skip them.

01

A professional first impression

A level, clean entrance tells clients and tenants the business is well run before anyone says a word.

02

Built for daily commercial traffic

Traffic-rated pavers on a compacted base carry cars, forklifts and delivery trucks without rutting where the wheels track.

03

No pooling at the door

Correct falls and drainage keep rain moving away from reception and loading doors, instead of pooling against them.

04

Repaired without a full re-lay

A stained or cracked block lifts out and gets replaced on its own. A poured slab has to be cut, broken and re-cast.

05

You never have to close

Phased sections and after-hours shifts mean your entrance stays usable while the work runs.

06

One fixed price, proper paperwork

A written quote with an order number and VAT invoice, billed the way a business needs it.

Why us for this

One contractor, from the site walk to a reopened entrance

Every entrance looks fine on handover day. What you can't see is whether the sub-base was compacted in proper layers, whether the edges are genuinely restrained, and whether the falls actually carry water away from your doors. Those are the things that decide whether you're phoning someone again in two winters.

Our own teams quote and build the job, start to finish, across the areas we serve in Gauteng — not a subcontractor who disappears once the invoice is paid. One point of contact, one programme, and the base and installation backed in writing.

Our process

From site walk to a reopened entrance

Planned around your trading hours, with a programme you sign off before we start.

01

Site walk & fixed quote

We assess traffic, drainage and access, agree what has to stay open, and hand you a written, itemised price.

02

Phasing plan agreed

We map the entrance into sections and schedule after-hours or weekend shifts where they keep you accessible.

03

Excavate, base & drainage

Dig out, build and compact the G5 sub-base in layers, set falls and fit edge restraints and channels.

04

Lay, compact & reopen

Pavers laid to pattern, cut in around booms and bollards, vibrated down, jointing sand swept in and the section reopened.

They repaved our front entrance and visitor parking over three weekends, so reception never lost access and deliveries kept coming through the side gate the whole time. A year of Highveld storms later and the drains still cope — no puddling at the doors.

What pavers do you use for a commercial entrance or forecourt?

For entrances carrying cars and foot traffic we generally specify a 60mm interlocking or cobble paver in herringbone. Where delivery trucks, forklifts or a boom gate turn and brake, we step up to an 80mm heavy-duty interlocking block on a compacted G5 sub-base. We confirm the exact spec at the free site visit, based on what actually crosses your entrance.

How much downtime should we expect?

On most sites, none that a client or tenant would notice. We phase the work so at least part of the entrance stays trafficable throughout, and where the layout allows we run after-hours or weekend shifts for the more disruptive stages. We give you a realistic programme before we start, not an optimistic one.

Can you keep our entrance open while you work?

Yes, on almost every site. We section the driveway so part stays open for cars and deliveries while we build the rest, cordon the live works properly for safety, and move across once the first side is cured. A full closure is rare, and we'll flag it upfront if your layout genuinely needs one.

How do you deal with drainage at an entrance?

We lay every entrance to a deliberate fall so rainwater runs to where you want it, not toward reception or a loading door. On enclosed forecourts or steeper approaches we design in channel drains and catchpits, sized for a proper Highveld downpour rather than a light shower.

Do you guarantee the work?

Yes — a written workmanship guarantee on our base preparation and installation, on top of the manufacturer's guarantee on the pavers themselves. If our work settles or fails, we come back and put it right.

What does commercial driveway and entrance paving cost?

As a guide, supplied and laid commercial paving runs from about R220 per m², rising with the paver grade, the sub-base needed and any after-hours work. Every entrance is different, so the only accurate figure is the fixed quote we give you after a free site visit.
