Bryanston still carries the bones of what it was before Johannesburg's northern suburbs grew up around it: big stands, some over an acre, laid out when this was smallholding country rather than city. A job here looks different to a townhouse complex in Sandton — one property can mean forty metres of driveway and a parking court, winding past beds with thirty years of growth behind them.
